I’m into day 4 of a detox run by Michelle – a colleague, my coach and a friend. It’s not that I needed the detox so much nutritionally but it was an opportunity to be really, fully conscious every day, for every meal.
I’m preparing each meal with care and sharing as much as will be tolerated with my family. The meals are quick but I’m always adding a little of this, and a little of that. The ups and downs are normal for the first few days of a detox while your body readjusts. Your mind is also fully present and aware of the changes your body goes through, feeling the effects of the food.
How often are we really fully present in what we’re doing? So often I find myself stuck in my own head, getting worked up about future possibilities that may or may not even happen. I think, uh oh – the kids are extra rambunctious this morning. That means, nobody will sleep! How will I get out the door if nobody has napped? Then, I’ll never have time to make dinner if I have to delay my errands. The day is ruined!
Then, everyone plays off my stressed energy and we struggle right into our tough day.
This detox is helping me focus on the here and now. Getting me back to conscious living. Being fully present with where I am and how I’m feeling.
Conscious living – I think it’s the #1 secret to having an easier and happier life. It means that this moment brings nothing more than what it actually is. It means being fully present for the ups and the downs of your day. Making better choices and not worrying about the unknown future. Really tuning into how you feel, how your kids feel and what is going on in your day.
Releasing the stress of the unknown. Being present for yourself and your kids. Feeling grounded. Living better right now.
It’s kind of a breath of fresh air, isn’t it? Are you willing to give it a try?
